The 2009 Texas Year End Convention is coming March 5 – 7. Two in particular, Speak Up and Debate. It’s good to practice before heading into competition.

I would like to announce practice in preparation for the Speak Up competition. Practice is a way for those that are entering the debate or speech competition to get some pointers. I have reserved a section at Fudruckers in the Fountains on Saturday Feb, 27th 2010 at 11:30 am. Please write a   short speech about why you joined the Jaycees if you are planning on competing in Speak Up. I look forward to seeing you there.

Bear Hugs for Haiti“, a teddy bear donation drive benefiting I Am Change, an organization dedicated towards providing clean water and care for orphans worldwide will continue thru Friday, March 12. Members and their guests are encouraged to donate a new or gently loved teddy bear or stuffed animal during the upcoming meeting or any one of the eight teddy bear drop-off sites located throughout Westchase and the greater Houston area. The Texas 2009 Year End Convention in San Antonio will be March 5-7. During the convention, many of our chapter officers and members will compete in categories such as debate, interview and impromptou speech. In addition, workshops and professional development will be offered to convention attendees. For those who are unable to make it to the March Convention, the chapter will provide an overview of convention happenings during the general meeting in April.

The community has been asked to donate their new, or gently used teddy bears or stuffed animals towards the cause. The Westchase Junior Chamber (Jaycees) hopes to collect 500 bears by the end of the program.

Various donations sites have been established with local businesses, churches and schools within the Westchase area, in addition to locations throughout the greater Houston area.

Donated items will be accepted thru Friday, March 12. The collected bears will then be given to I Am Change, a local non-profit organization in The Woodlands dedicated towards the care and education of orphans.
